SMART LABEL PRINTER PRO SLP2000 SERIAL
I already have a Prolific based NEWlink USB Serial Adapter which works with my label printer. I purchased this USB to Serial RS232 Adapter to connect with my serial connected Seiko Smart Label Printer Pro (SLP2000). I bought a Ugreen FTDI chipset based usb/serial cable which was cheaper and it worked first time using the same FTDI driver. So this Startech cable didn't work either, although it seemed to give me less gibberish overall in the console in Win 8.1. Prior to buying this cable I bought a cheap £2.50 cable off ebay which was Chinese and I think was a prolific copy and it didn't work (it bricked my radio by sending a corrupted firmware update to it). Also the body of this adapter is a bit fat.

So I wasn't physically able to plug it in until i unscrewd the nuts from the back of the radio. Another problem were the nuts sticking out next to the D-9 male plug, as nearly all female destination devices have nuts and require screws (or nothing). I thought the problem was the baud rate in Win device manager defaulting back to 9600 every time I set it to a higher value, as the 3rd party sw only supported 2 higher baud rates. I contacted Startech support who were friendly and willing to help but didn't get anywhere. Tried it on my old XP laptop using the older driver and that didn't work either, in fact it seemed to be even worse as I just got question marks in the console of the 3rd party software. Installed the latest FTDI driver for Win 8.1, couldn't connect with the destination device which was a Rotel T11 DAB+ radio (2016-now model).
